Max is your AI study partner built into Recitare. Max reads your documents aloud, answers questions about your material, generates summaries and study guides, creates Audio Overview podcasts, and adapts his teaching style to match your vibe: focused, hyped, or analytical.
Recitare is built to keep Max honest in a few concrete ways. First, listening can't hallucinate at all: when Max reads your document aloud, he speaks your exact words, so nothing is invented. Second, when you ask a question or generate a summary or study guide, Max works only from the document you uploaded, not the open web or general knowledge, so answers stay tied to your source. Third, every specific claim cites the page it came from, like [Page 3], so you can turn to that page and confirm it yourself. Fourth, Max is instructed to say plainly when an answer isn't in your document rather than guess. And every answer carries a confidence indicator, built from grounding signals, so a shaky response is flagged for you to double-check. No AI is perfect, but you are never asked to trust a black box: answers are grounded in your material and traceable to the page.

Max can generate AI summaries with document metadata, 5 study guide formats (Key Concepts, Full Study Guide, Timeline/Flow, FAQ, Practice Problems) plus in-app Flashcards, Audio Overview podcasts, and real-time document Q&A with verified page citations. Free tier gets limited daily usage; Reader and Pro tiers unlock unlimited access.
The Snap-to-Explain (Pro only) lets you select any area of a PDF (diagrams, charts, equations) and Max will explain it at 300 DPI resolution. It's like having a tutor look over your shoulder.
Yes. Your documents are stored encrypted (in transit and at rest) so your library and audio replay work, and you can permanently delete any document at any time. Personal identifiers are automatically redacted before AI processing, and your content is never used to train AI models. See our Privacy Policy and Trust page for details.
Max speaks 14+ languages natively via Gemini TTS, automatically detecting the language of your document. This includes English, Spanish, French, German, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Hindi, and more.
Yes, and you don't need to install anything. Recitare runs in your phone's browser: open recitare.app in Safari or Chrome, sign into the same account, and your whole library, playback, and word-by-word highlighting are right there. To make it feel like a native app, use your browser's Share menu, then 'Add to Home Screen', and Recitare gets its own icon and opens full-screen. Audio keeps playing with the screen off and shows lock-screen controls, just like a podcast, so you can listen at your desk, while cooking, or at the gym. One thing to know: playback streams over WiFi or cellular today, so there is no offline download yet.
