Free starts with a one-time 20K-word welcome grant (a full paper or two), then 1K words/week; Scholar ($9/mo) gives you 100K words/month. Researcher ($18/mo) gives you 300,000 words/month: the first 200,000 English words each month use the highest-quality premium voice, then listening continues on a natural standard voice. Documents in other languages always use the premium voice.

You're never locked out. When you reach your word allowance, Recitare keeps reading using your device's built-in voice at no extra cost, so listening never just stops. Your premium AI voices return when your allowance resets at the start of the next month, or right away if you upgrade. The premium voices are the polished, expressive ones; the device voice is more basic, but it means you can always keep going.

Recitare has an AI study partner built in. It reads your documents aloud, answers questions about your material, generates summaries and study guides, creates Audio Overview podcasts, and adapts its teaching style to match your vibe: focused, hyped, or analytical.

Recitare is built to keep its AI honest in a few concrete ways. First, listening can't hallucinate at all: when Recitare reads your document aloud, it speaks your exact words, so nothing is invented. Second, when you ask a question or generate a summary or study guide, the AI works only from the document you uploaded, not the open web or general knowledge, so answers stay tied to your source. Third, every specific claim cites the page it came from, like [Page 3], so you can turn to that page and confirm it yourself. Fourth, the AI is instructed to say plainly when an answer isn't in your document rather than guess. And every answer carries a confidence indicator, built from grounding signals, so a shaky response is flagged for you to double-check. No AI is perfect, but you are never asked to trust a black box: answers are grounded in your material and traceable to the page.

Recitare can generate AI summaries with document metadata, 5 study guide formats (Key Concepts, Full Study Guide, Timeline/Flow, FAQ, Practice Problems) plus in-app Flashcards, Audio Overview podcasts, and real-time document Q&A with verified page citations. Free has daily limits; Scholar and Researcher have none, within a monthly fair-use cap of 1,000 questions, 200 summaries and 100 study guides.

The Snap-to-Explain (Researcher only) lets you select any area of a PDF (diagrams, charts, equations) and have it explained from a 300 DPI capture. It's like having a tutor look over your shoulder.

Yes. Your documents are stored encrypted (in transit and at rest) so your library and audio replay work, and you can permanently delete any document at any time. Personal identifiers are automatically redacted before AI analysis, and our AI providers’ terms prohibit training on the content you submit. See our Privacy Policy and Trust page for details.

Recitare reads 14+ languages natively via Inworld, automatically detecting the language of your document. This includes English, Spanish, French, German, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Hindi, and more.

There is nothing to download from an app store. Recitare is a progressive web app (PWA): your phone adds it to the home screen, where it gets its own icon and opens full screen. On an iPhone, open recitare.app in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. On Android, open it in Chrome, tap the menu, then Add to Home screen or Install app. Sign in with the same account as on your computer and everything you have added is there. Listening carries on with the screen locked, with lock-screen controls. It needs an internet connection for now; working offline is on the roadmap.
